About the Principal

About the Principal, Mr. Damon Rhodes

I am a native of Stokes County, North Carolina.  I have resided in western Stanly County for 12 years, and my wife, Leslie, is a native of Stanly County.  She attended Stanfield Elementary and West Stanly High School.  We have two children, Kendrick and Emma.  Kendrick is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade at Locust Elementary School.  Emma is 3 years old and attends the Sunshine House in Mint Hill

I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades Education in 1996 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s Degree in School Administration in 2002 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  I began my career in the Cabarrus County Schools as a teacher at Mt. Pleasant Middle School in 1996.  After 4 years of teaching 7th grade science and social studies, I took a leave of absence for the 2000-2001 school year to pursue a degree in School Administration.  I completed a full-time principal internship at Coltrane-Webb Elementary in Concord during the 2001-2002 school year and then began my administrative career as an Assistant Principal at C.C. Griffin Middle School in July of 2002.  I worked at C.C. Griffin for three years from 2002-2005 and then moved to the Stanly County Schools in August 2005.  I completed 2+ years as Principal of Kendall Valley Elementary School prior to moving to Running Creek.

My hobbies are golf and spending time with my family.  I am also a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Stanfield where I am a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Usher.
